SKIVED HEATSINKS

Skived heat sinks, made from high – grade aluminum or copper, offer seamless, one – piece cooling solutions. These solutions are designed for excellent thermal performance without the restrictions of thermal barriers.

These heat sinks improve cooling efficiency. They achieve higher fin densities than extrusion methods and get rid of the interface joints. These joints are often seen in bonded or brazed fin heat sinks and can impede heat transfer. The manufacturing process uses a precise method called skiving. In this method, workers thinly slice the base material, and then fold each slice perpendicularly to form fins. They repeat this process at regular intervals to obtain the desired fin structure.

The skiving process helps create heat sinks with high fin density and thin fin shapes, fully optimizing thermal performance. By maximizing the fin surface area in a small volume, skived heat sinks provide excellent heat dissipation and perform better than other one – piece designs, like extruded aluminum heat sinks. Different from extrusion, the skiving process doesn’t need expensive tooling, enabling greater design flexibility and rapid prototyping. Workers use the same tool to cut each fin individually, greatly reducing tooling costs while keeping precision and quality.
