Air cooling

Air-Cooled IGBT Heat Sinks

For air-cooled IGBT applications, the heat sink geometry needs to match the available airflow, installation envelope and module layout. BY Thermal manufactures the heat sink structure according to customer drawings and project requirements.

Air-cooled IGBT heat sink projects usually require both thermal surface area and accurate machined mounting features.

Manufacturing details to confirm

Module footprint Heat load Available airflow Airflow direction Installation space Mounting-hole pattern Required mounting surface Material and base thickness Fin geometry Mechanical tolerances
  • Skiving for dense integral fin structures.
  • Extrusion + CNC for profile-based heat sinks with secondary machining.
  • CNC machining for mounting surfaces, holes, grooves, pockets and mechanical interfaces.
  • Embedded heat pipe base when the drawing requires additional heat spreading.
Liquid cooling

Liquid-Cooled IGBT Cold Plates

For liquid-cooled IGBT projects, the channel layout and mechanical structure are reviewed against the module footprint, coolant conditions and pressure-drop requirements provided by the customer.

Cold plate project information

Module footprint Cooling area Coolant Flow rate Coolant inlet temperature Allowable pressure drop Port position Channel layout Plate thickness Leak test requirement
  • CNC machined channel cold plates for flexible flow paths and mechanical features.
  • Embedded copper tube cold plates for selected plate structures.
  • Brazed and FSW cold plates when the construction is suitable for the drawing.
  • Microchannel structures can be evaluated for projects requiring higher heat-transfer density. Actual channel capability is confirmed after drawing review.

Cold plate manufacturing review focuses on channel layout, ports, sealing method, pressure-drop requirement and inspection plan.
Mounting interface

Module Mounting Surface Matters

The mounting surface between the IGBT module and the cooler is an important manufacturing interface. Flatness, surface finish, mounting-hole position and other requirements should follow the customer's drawing or the module manufacturer's mounting specification.

BY Thermal does not use one fixed flatness value for every IGBT project. Requirements are reviewed against the actual module and drawing.

Manufacturing interface review

  • Flatness requirement according to drawing.
  • Surface finish requirement on the module contact area.
  • Hole position, datum and mounting geometry.
  • Burr control around holes, slots and machined edges.
  • Surface cleanliness before packing and assembly.
  • Base stiffness and local mechanical structure.
  • CNC dimensional inspection and interface inspection plan.

Start With Your Drawing

For IGBT cooling projects, the fastest way to review manufacturability and provide an accurate quotation is to start with your existing 2D or 3D drawing.

Whether the project uses an air-cooled heat sink, liquid cold plate or integrated thermal assembly, our engineering review is primarily based on the actual part geometry, mounting interfaces, tolerances and manufacturing requirements.

Drawing available

Already Have a Drawing?

Send your 2D/3D drawing together with the target quantity and basic project information. We will review the part for manufacturability, machining process, material, tolerances and production feasibility.

  • 2D or 3D drawing
  • Target quantity
  • Material requirement
  • Application / IGBT module information
  • Key tolerances or mounting requirements
  • Existing cooling conditions if already defined

No Drawing Yet?

If your project is still at the concept stage and no manufacturable drawing is available, paid design support can be discussed separately.

The design fee can be credited toward the subsequent product order when the project proceeds to manufacturing with BY Thermal.

Manufacturing RFQs are prioritized for projects with drawings. This helps our engineering team respond faster and keeps the review focused on manufacturable parts.
